"Toni Hebda, RN, PhD," is a nurse clinician at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. She has worked as a system analyst and adjunct faculty for Duquesne University School of Nursing, having taught both nursing informatics and clinical courses. Her interest in informatics provided a focus for her dissertation and subsequently led her to help establish a regional nursing informatics support group and obtain a graduate degree in information science and ANCC certification as informatics nurse. She is a reviewer for the "Online Journal of Nursing Informatics." "Patricia Czar, RN," is an Information Systems Consultant. She has been active in informatics for more than 25 years, serving as manager of clinical systems at a major medical center where she was responsible for planning, design, implementation, and ongoing support for all of the clinical information systems. She has been an active member of several informatics groups and has presented nationally and internationally. Ms. Czar has served as mentor for nursing and health informatics students and has a Microcomputer Specialist certificate. "Cynthia Mascara, RN, MSN, MBA," is a Principal Consultant with Siemens Medical Solutions-Health Services. She provides consulting related to clinical systems implementation in the United States and internationally. This book was used for my senior level nursing informatics course. It served the purpose and covered all of the topics required to pass the exams. It helped that my professor used the slides the authors provided. There were a few things I did not like about the text that made it a difficult read. For starters, the authors use WAY too many abbreviations. I get that all the agencies and programs they are describing in healthcare have abbreviations that stand for something more (for example HIPPA, HITECH act, ACA, etc.), but this book goes overboard. I swear there were some paragraphs that had so many I forgot what I was reading about! I had to go back numerous times to remember what each one stood for, and honestly, they could have gotten the point across without so much unnecessary detail. Second, the unnecessary detail itself was a problem. I don't need the complex history of how each law or regulation evolved since 1900- while a little bit of history can add context, this just seemed to be a list of useless facts that made the reading longer and more complex than needed. Finally, as I always state about nursing texts, I absolutely HATE when authors of a textbook use APA to cite references. APA is bulky and makes reading through the material more difficult. It was hard to discern what was material I may be tested on and what was just references being listed (which are necessary for proper citation, but let's be honest most students don't care about.) I wish the authors of textbooks would realize this and save students the headache!

this was a required book for my schooling. I used it in class and that was it. It is a good resource though and read through much of it. It is very good because of the way healthcare and informatics are now working together. It helps grasp those concepts better.

Helped me pass my certification!

I bought this book because it was required for one of my nursing classes. The book was in very good condition when it arrived. The content of the book is much to be desired. It was very dry and did not keep my attention. The topic of the book is, however, a difficult one to make sound 'fun' and unfortunately, this book did not capture it either.

A lot of the information in this book is outdated, it talks about technology or protocols that aren't used in most hospitals anymore.

This was one of my favorite books as a kid. I bought a copy recently to read at our family's Hanukkah gathering, and it's just as charming and thrilling as I remember. It's a great story that teaches lessons about courage, faith, and keeping a good sense of humor even when the world around you is a scary place. The story includes the greatest hits of a traditional Hanukkah: lighting the menorah, playing dreidel, and making latkes, so whether your family celebrates every year or doesn't know the first thing about Hanukkah, you'll get a great sense of the spirit and origins of the holiday. The illustrations are colorful and kind of goofy, but maybe a little scary for kids under 4. I'd recommend this book for families of all faiths who want to read an exciting, endearing story to the kiddos around the holidays.

I remembered reading this book as a child, so I purchased it for my friend's kids, ages 3 and 5, because she wanted me to teach them about Hannukah. They LOVED it. My friend told me later that they had to hide the book because the kids wanted to read it over and over. It doesn't tell the story of Hannukah, if that's what you're looking for, but it discusses some of the Hannukah traditions. There aren't a lot of great Hannukah books out there, so I'm glad this book exists.Note: Some of the illustrations can be a little scary for young children, so I'd skim it before you read it to your kids.

I love this story! My father used to borrow it from another teacher and read it to us when we were younger and recently him and I were talking about it. After putting our brains together we remembered the name and I ordered a copy for my own daughters. They both love it too!

The reviews for this book helped me decide to purchase and I'm glad I did!! The story is so clever. I usually don't like goblins and witches stories or anything scary for that matter and I don't do Halloween, BUT I really enjoyed this book immensely. It's one of my favorite kid's books on the shelf. I shared it with my nieces and they loved it. I think the background and the meaning of the story is what really hits home. The story has great object lessons in it as well.

This is my favorite Hanukkah story. While it doesn't explain the meaning behind Hanukkah, it's riveting for children and as an adult I still enjoy Hershel's wit. Our family definitely likes it better than drier books which explain Hanukkah more. I am confused by the review that says this book advocates violence as Hershel tricks all of the goblins without physically hurting them (though I suppose he does threaten one of them). If your kids are not Jewish, you should explain the rules of the dreidel game before reading the book or else they won't understand Hershel's trick involving the rules.

There could be no equal to this book in its category. We read it aloud to our kids every year at holiday time. I have given it as gifts to several children in the family. Hyman's illustrations are perfect! The story is both charming and spellbinding to kids who can take a little scariness along with their pleasure in a good read.It deserves more than five stars!

My very favorite Hanukkah story. Read it to my children and my religious school students every year. When my son was in Iraq, I would email a section to him every night of Hanukkah. It was good for both of us. Very highly recommended!

I absolutely ADORE this book! Every year for ten years I read this for my students at a Jewish day school. They absolutely loved it. I'm not Jewish, but I love this book so much I bought my own copy. Great story about an everyday guy who uses his brains and faith to outwit a horrible adversary. Beautiful story will make you laugh, cry and jump in fright. Beautiful beautiful illustrations by Trina Schart Hyman. An essential purchase for all Jewish households, and anyone who loves a good story.
